Stephen C. Newman

STEPHEN C. NEWMAN, a retired Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps, was appointed as the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Ohio by the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in February 2016 and began his third term in May of 2024. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University, Upland, Indiana (1986), a Juris Doctor degree from Capital University Law School, Columbus, Ohio (1990), a Master of Laws degree with a focus on international and military operational law from the Judge Advocate Generals School of the U.S. Army, and a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College. He has been an active member of the Ohio Bar since 1991.
