Bill Nettles
Federal Public Defender
District of South Carolina
After graduating the University of South Carolina School of Law, BILL NETTLES clerked for a state court judge and then worked as a state prosecutor in Charleston for nine months. He then joined a law firm in Camden, South Carolina where he became a partner with a general litigation practice. He left to join the FPD office in June 1995 because he really enjoyed criminal defense but could not make a living doing just that in a small town. Bill has been in the FPD ever since. He was appointed Defender for the District of South Carolina in 2021 and his term began in late February 2022.
